Whole Food Market relocates to Green Hub for night event during Durban Green Festival

The Green Hub will be abuzz with activity between 30 November to 9 December during the upcoming Durban Green Festival (25 November to 9 December). Local foodies, crafters and art fans will all be pleased to hear that the Whole Food Market will relocate to the Green Hub on Thursday, 1 December for a night market.

The Green Hub, which is situated at Blue Lagoon on the south bank of the uMngeni Estuary, will also feature a daily community market, a riverside beer garden, as well as a host of sporting events in the Durban Green Corridor.

All featuring locally sourced and handmade products, the variety of markets that will be taking place at the Green Hub will give Durban locals as well as the 15 000 COP 17/CMP7 (COP17) climate change conference visitors to Durban the chance see what the local foodie and craft scene is all about. The Whole Food Night Market will kick off at 17:00 and 21:00 on Thursday, 1 December. Having spent two months sourcing approximately 45 local vendors who sell organic, unique and homemade crafts and food, and by working in conjunction with the Green Hub and the Durban Green Festival, “we hope to provide a platform for these local traders, offering them more exposure and opportunities to further their business”, said Hofmann.

The Green Hub will also have a daily Community Market between Monday, 5 December and Friday, 9 December, which will promote local and rural African ladies crafts and will also feature products from the South African Women Entrepreneurs Network.
As well as the various markets, the Green Hub will also feature a Riverside Beer Garden which will be open daily for the full duration of the festival. Live music and entertainment will also be on offer at a stage at the Green Hub for the duration of the festival. The Mind Body Soul marquee, which will focus on health, wellness and psychic activities for the entire family, will also feature at the Green Hub on 3 and 4 December.

Another focal point at the Green Hub during the Durban Green Festival will be the ‘My Green Home’ exhibition. Designed in the format of a house and garden, this exhibit will contain a comprehensive range of technologies and solutions that can be applied to greening the home or workplace.

The Green Hub building will be open between 08:00 to 21:00 for the entirety of the Durban Green Festival. The activity programme (see is designed to enable Durban residents to visit after work and over the evening supper period, as well as to accommodate the conference visitors.
